Germany received a huge setback ahead of the FIFA World Cup 2010, as its skipper Michael Ballack was ruled out of the World Cup due to an injury.
Ballack is the most influential player in the team and has the ability to motivate and inspire other players to perform. He was ruled out with ankle ligament damage.
Ballack is playing for Chelsea. He could not continue during the FA cup final against Portsmouth due to the same problem. An MRI scan on Sunday revealed the seriousness of the injury
Ballack has played 98 international matches for Germany so far. He also featured in two consecutive World Cup finals in 2002 and 2006.
